review 1: Vail is a dark prince tormented by his complicated past, and even more complicated relationship with his brother. Enter Rosalind, a witch that’s being kept against her will by an evil king, a king who has happened across one of the most notorious Elf Princes in the realm—Vail. Forced into close proximity, Rosalind and Vail start to recognize that there might be more between them than just mutual attraction—and the need to escape their prison becomes more and more pressing. I liked Rosalind; she was feisty, a warrior, and more than ready to try and take things into her own hands—even if that doesn’t always work out for the best. It was refreshing to have a female character that is decidedly stronger than the male, especially given Vail’s tortured past. It made t... moreheir connection a little more interesting—of course, they’re kind of fated to be together—but it’s the decision on her part to try and look beyond the terrifying and hurting soul of Vail to see what’s inside that makes the love aspect of this story more interesting—and conflicted. Though it definitely was story driven, the sex in Tempted by a Dark Prince was also well done, though it definitely leans towards being a little on the harder side, so if you’re looking for a sweet and innocent coupling, probably not for you. There’s a lot of build up to this aspect of the story, so it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s being thrown in there just to have it—it seems like a natural extension of the relationship that Rosalind and Vail come to develop, which is a welcome change from many books that build a story around sex, and not character development. I wish there’d been a little more resolution with Vail’s witch captor. We know she’s been defeated, but it almost came across like an afterthought—a reason to get him out of there and into a new story; it would have been a little nice to have a bit more information regarding her (he’s tortured, physically and sexually, I get that, but it’s a little hard to sympathize with someone when they’re just Tortured and Damaged—it would be easier to empathize if there were a clearer picture of everything that’s been going on up until that point). It’s possible that this is gone over in previous books, as this is the third in a series, but it’s not something that comes across for me here. I also had a hard time deciding whether or not this was a medieval type tale, or modern. There were certain phrases that the characters used, and descriptions of events and objects (jeans and tequila really stand out) that were a little confusing—especially considering the rest of this world seems to be predominantly medieval fantasy. Though I found the ending a little forced (and extremely convenient), it will keep the reader wanting more—especially with regards to what happens to a certain sexy Incubus. Though some of the unanswered questions might frustrate readers, I think it will be more than enough to spur people on and keep them coming back for more from this series. If you’re looking for a darker, paranormal romance that’s one part healing, one part hurting, then this story is for you.
review 2: I would like to thank author Felicity Heaton for sending me a copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review. The book is the 3rd in the Eternal Mates Paranormal Series, although it is the 3rd book this could be read as a standalone story as with book 1 and 2, although there are characters from the previous books, Felicity takes care to give you enough back ground information. I would however strongly recommend that you read the 1st 2 books. We meet Vail as he travels through the Fifth Realm, driven to the brink of madness by a witch, hence Vail hates witches, Vail is captured by demons who he should have been able to overcome but due to his fragile state he is thrown in to the cells.Rosalind is a witch, she was captured in the battle between the Third Realm and the Fifth Realm, tortured and used to heal warriors, when she is thrown into a cell with Vail and ordered to heal him, Rosalind also has a secret….There is no denying the attraction between Rosalind and Vail, but Vail struggles with his lucidity and they both struggle with trust issues, they also find that they can’t bear to be apart from each other. The darkness is always threatening to engulf Vail, it is a testament to his strength that he has managed to hang on to his sanity, just about, but at every turn he is a man on the edge. Rosalind it the light that he needs to pull him through, I couldn't help but like her as she is feisty, then there is her caring/healing side that doesn't want to let go of Vail, she also struggles with nightmares from her past but not in the same way as Vail. Will they manage to escape the King of the Fifth Realm? The journey they take will be treacherous for both of them and will they escape alive? Are they safe from the King? Are they safe from each other? These are the questions I found myself asking as I read and couldn't wait to find out the answer. The book is quite fast paced and found myself really liking Vail and wanting him to find his way to Rosalind. I wanted both of them to overcome their fears and find the truth. After reading book 2 this was totally different from what I was expecting to read next and a really great. The book is both darkness and light, with lots of twists. Can’t wait now for the next book in the series to see where Felicity Heaton takes the story and the characters. less
