review 1: I really liked this book. I remember when this happened and the Comet Kohoutek was going to come and light up the night sky with it's once in a lifetime brilliance. Everyone was so excited and some people I know remember when Halleys Comet was last here. Their talk of that and what they experienced made this up coming event truly stellar. Well Comet Kohoutek was a big bust! You could not see it and we were all so disappointed. I remember how I really wanted to stand outside and gaze upon this starry wonder. It never came and I felt I missed out on a once in a lifetime event. The one good thing that came out of this non-event was my interest in astronomy grew. I go out and gaze upwards and wonder at it all,starry night.
review 2: This coming of age story is set ... moreclose to my home town, in south Louisiana. I enjoyed the story, but I loved the details about the characters and their lives that ring true to my childhood experiences. Alan and his dad play out the two ends of the hopes and fears we experience as teenagers and adults as they approach the intersection of their lives when roles reverse and choices are made that impact the rest of their lives. less
