review 1: In a tragic accident, two archaeologists and their driver dies at a car collision, only the archaeologists’ son and driver’s daughter lives. Furthermore, a priest comes upon the accident and takes off with the treasure the archaeologists found and conceals it as instructed from Rome. Years later, Jack Cane, an archaeologist discovers a scroll that could crumble the whole of the Christian faith - about a second Jesus - but his fellow professor is murdered the scroll stolen. At Rome, a new Pope is elected, but this Pope has revealed that he intends to expose the Vatican’s secrets for all.Jack Cane now finds himself on a dangerous journey to retrieve the stolen scroll, and those pursuing Jack Cane for the scroll will stop at nothing to get it in their hands. Along with ... morediscovering the deeper truth with the scroll he’s found, Jack will also learn the truth about the tragic incident that happened many years ago, the one that have claimed his parent’s life. The book has a lot of chapters but they’re all quite short, as so a thriller should be, to keep you more inclined to keep going. The author also has a knack for ending the scene on cliffhangers, before switching to another scene. This keeps up the suspense, so the reader has to keep reading to find out what happens, although towards the end of the book you mind start getting a little tired of these cliffhangers. It was a good read, did keep my attention to keep going as it should. In the end its not really about the controversy of the scroll but rather about the connections the characters have to each other. Also there is quite a bunch of hidden aliases, which came at a little bit of a surprise to me since I never suspected them to be. If you ever decide to read this book, be suspicious of most of the characters. If you like Dan Brown’s work or anything with a controversial Christian theme, then you may enjoy this.
review 2: The Second Messiah is both quite good and quite annoying. The concept of the story is great and fun and an easy, fast-pasted mystery. What I could never quite get over what the slightly 'off' ways of telling the story- particularly those things in Israel/Palestine, Jordan and Syria. Rome was great- he brought to life those areas very well and certainly as I remember it. The Middle East- some was right, but not RIGHT. It was one of those things that I had a hard time getting over, although I think Mr. Meade did a good job trying to be fair and for the most part was quite fair. (it annoyed me kinda' like watching the final fight scene of the 2nd transformers where they make Jordan, Egypt and New Mexico all seem in the same shot)So, if you can get through the first half of the story, the second part where they are mostly in Rome is highly enjoyable and very fun easy read! less

Book starts off great, but then it became a little slow. I would recommend it.
