review 1: What a great idea! The Catholic church going back to the original teachings of Jesus in that his mission was to spread the word of God and help those in need as opposed to living in luxury in the Vatican and not seeming to care about the struggles of the congregation. This starts with a mystery at an archeological dig in Israel and takes us to Rome where our main characters must sort through what they know to solve a puzzle. Their exploits coincide with the election of a new Pope who is going to turn the church upside down to regain what he feels is the true purpose of God. Excellent read!
review 2: When archaeologists find more of the Dead Sea Scrolls from the time of Christ mayhem results with the murder of the head of the dig/scrolls stolen/black market
... morecriminals show up, and the Catholic Church is smack dab in the middle of it as well as Mossad, the Israeli secret police. Is it possible there were 2 Messiahs? If so, which is the real one? Simultaneously, there is a new Pope (an American who has a past that haunts him) who decides the CC will reveal all the Vatican secrets including access to the archives, financial records etc. A bit like the Da Vinci Code with the usual "suspects" and "efforts to find "truth". Probably wouldn't recommend unless someone needs a diversion from life for a few hours. less
