The 39 Clues: Cahills vs. Vespers
review 1: I didn't know what the expect going into the second series of 39 Clues books. Would they be exactly the same as the first set? Would everything be completely reinvented & different? I was pleased to find that it was a bit of each. A new overlying story arch brings about new challenges & characters while still keeping the fast-paced & educational plot style. I feel the development of the characters is appropriate for their increased ages and fitting to their past experience. Things also start to get a bit darker; it feels like a natural progression as both the protagonists & readers grow up. If you like the first series then I think you'll love the start of the second.
review 2: Gordon Korman puts together a gritty story, taking Dan and Amy out of their somewhat
... more relaxed life. Suddenly, the Vespers, an age old enemy to the Cahills, emerge to threaten the balance of power. Kidnapping Cahills around the world – including Nelly – Vesper One demands Amy and Dan steal a painting in Florence. What follows is a global race against the clock as hostages will be killed if the Vespers’ demands are not met.Overall, a good beginning to the follow-on to the 39 Clues series. less
