review 1: As a continuation of the Alex Hunter series, this book really holds up and it seems like I could not turn the pages fast enough. I was enthralled from the start and really enjoyed all the history and back story that was going on - though a few times I thought there were to many characters to keep track of and that was a little distracting - that being said, if you like the Arcadian series this is a good continuation of the story. I recommend this and am looking forward to the next in the series.
review 2: 4th in the Arcadian series, and I think the best. The series revolves around Alex Hunter, the Arcadian, a super-soldier who leads an elite military team on the most dangerous missions possible. The first 3 books were mainly about the team entering a remote and... more isolated location to do battle with monsters. Kind of a combination action-adventure/horror novels. This one picks up where This Green Hell left off. The Arcadian, infected by some strange virus, wakes up 6 months later with no knowledge of who he is. The "monster" in this book is the legend of Bigfoot, who emerges from a cave recently opened on Black Mountain in NC after a series of tremors. The subplot here is more engaging than the plot of the Arcadian, as a team of scientists work to discover what is happening on the mountain. People and animals keep disappearing, as they find clues that point to an ancient humanoid that may have sparked the original stories of Bigfoot. I enjoy this series and again, this book is in my opinion the best of them. less
