Love Lessons
review 1: Review first published on Nautical Star Books.I am a sucker for a low angst, romantic young love story and Love Lessons just pushed all the right buttons for me! Kelly is newly arrived at Hope College and is just now starting to come out. Having grown up in a VERY small town he just didn’t think he had it in him to be the center of attention for being ‘that gay kid’ in town. He is shy and sweet but eager to let loose a little bit and enjoy himself. He looks at sex, love and relationships with rose colored glasses, wanting to meet that special someone before exploring the ins and outs of sex.Walter is definitely not boyfriend material. He comes from a relatively screwed up and financially well off family and has no plans of ever getting involved in a relationship... more. However, he is drawn to Kelly like a moth to a flame. Physically, Kelly is exactly the type of guy he usually goes for but Walter is actually a nice guy and knows that messing around with his roommate would cause nothing but emotional issues. Putting Kelly firmly into the ‘off limits’ category allows them to carry on an emotionally satisfying yet physically frustrating friendship.Kelly can’t help but fall for his roommate and Walter wants nothing more than to protect Kelly. The jealousy over Kelly’s attempts at dating and the constant physical ache in his presence finally clue Walter in to his ‘not quite friend’ emotional attachment to his roommate. Their first sexual encounter is sweet and sexy. Kelly may be new at sex but he is determined and boy does that just make it even hotter!Love Lessons by Heidi Cullinan is a book about friends falling in love. It’s not full of drama or angst, although there is just enough to help the story move along. It’s about developing feelings for each other before jumping into bed. It’s about Walter learning to love Kelly’s Disney obsession and Kelly finally coming out of his shell and getting the man he wants. It’s a happily ever after, which may not be realistic at 18 but it is what so many of us dreamed about finding.
review 2: (I read this earlier in the year and am trying to be better about actually reviewing and rating on Goodreads.) This book was so darn sweet. I'm a sucker for opposites attracting, and I loved Kelly and Walter. I'm also a sucker for a slow burn and UST, and this book did not disappoint. There were lots of sparks flying, and I loved how protective Walter was of Kelly. *draws hearts around them* This is a book that will make you smile and feel good about life. Thank you, Heidi! less
