Tepig spacca.Tepig is life. Tepig is love.

... moremes and I still have most of my old trading cards.Recently I’ve become a bit nostalgic and I find myself reading Pokémon manga.I recently read Pokémon Adventures: Volume 1. That series follows Red who basically does the same thing each Pokémon trainer does-challenge gym leaders, fight in the championship/Elite Four. Complete the Pokédex. But I wanted to something newer. So I went with Black and White. Another fun fact about me: Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl is the best Pokémon manga. Ever. I read it in 5th grade but I remember the series with greater clarity than I do other books I read at that age. Hearta was just such fun to read about. And I loved the way he and Mitsumi complimented each other. Hearta’s theories about why she rejoined Team Galactic had me in stitches!*takes a breath* Phew. Okay, that being said, Black and White felt like a cheap rip-off of Diamond and Pearl. The creators seemed to be trying to capture the overexcited Pokémon lover essence of Hearta and revamp it for the new franchise. It didn’t work.Black’s character had no credibility. Hearta was raised by Pokémon so his fierce dedication to them made sense. Black was just some obsessed kid. He was the way he was just because and it frustrates me to no end. Also, another character I was sorely disappointed in was Prof. Juniper. As the first female Professor, I had kind of hoped that she would have it a little more…together. She seemed so unprepared for everything. I know the Profs usually get into some mess that winds up with the MC getting their starter Pokémon (Red accidentally set all of Prof. Oak’s Pokémon free.) So maybe I’m being a little unfair, but still. Everything just seemed so hectic. Another issue I had was the length. All the manga I’ve read have been around 200 pages. This one is 98 pages and was all set up. Sometimes all set up works for me if the protagonist is likeable and the plot is fairly interesting. So those are the two main reasons that this book didn’t work for me. Some other thoughts/wonderings:Did anyone else have trouble telling if Cheren was male of female at first? The title of this whole franchise is just horrible. Black is not black so it could be considered whitewashing but if he were black it would be racist. Same for X and Y but instead it’d be sexist.WHERE WAS WHITE??? less
