review 1: For a guy who envisioned creatures that the human mind can't comprehend - let alone visually depict - Lovecraft translates pretty damn well into comic book form. The two best in this collection happen to be my two favorite Lovecraft stories, the Call of Cthulhu and The Shadow Over Innsmouth. They manage to capture the eerieness of the stories just about perfectly, and manage to depict their respective monsters in a particularly spectacular way.I would, however, recommend that people read the stories before reading the graphic adaptations, just because Lovecraft should be given to your own imagination before its given to an artist's pen.
review 2: Comics are awesome - how have I not read more? I had previously read only one Lovecraft story, the Call of Cthulhu,
... morewhich I had enjoyed. My favorites from this anthology, in terms of both style and story, were the Shadow Over Innsmouth and Dagon, both of which involve horrors from the deep ocean. The illustrations for Dagon, done by Alice Duke, were gorgeous and dreamlike. Excellent anthology - I must seek out volume two. less

An excellent collection , I can't say there was a story here that was badly done.
