review 1: 3.5 starsLet me start by saying my rating and review only relate to the Alphas: Origins story by Ilona Andrews. That was the main reason I got the anthology from the library and while I do enjoy the Nalini Singh Archangel series, I just wasn't all that interested in reading about Noel. One of these days I might check it out from the library again and read the other three stories, but that day isn't today.I listened to the audio book so the spellings on these names might be wrong. The story is about a young mother, Karina, who finds herself in jeopardy and is rescued by a mysterious group of people in exchange for her agreement to be the food source for what is, in essence, a demon... but a really sweet demon. I don't want to go any further into the plot because I don't wan... moret to give anything away, so I'm just going to say that Lucas was absolutely adorable and I hope to see more from these two characters if the authors ever decide to revisit this world. Even if they just do another novella, I'd love to see how things work out after the end of this story. Even though it ended at a good place, I felt like I should get an epilogue or something, because I was curious about some of the shifts in relationship dynamics after the events of the story.I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am incredibly intrigued by this world. I'd love to read more set in the Alphas world, but it doesn't appear that the Ilona Andrews writing team is currently doing anything else with this, which is a shame... then again, if they're concentrating on this, that might delay the next Kate Daniels or Hidden Legacy book, which would also be a shame. I'd love to read more about it if the authors ever get a hankering. Just sayin'...
review 2: 4 paranormal stories with angels as the main topic. 3 have sex, though 2 of those don't get in depth. 1 has no sex. Nalini Singh - 4 stars. I LOVE anything written by NS! Noel is the vampire who was tortured & beaten to literally a pulp in "Archangel's Kiss". He's recovered in body, but is still dealing with the emotional trauma. He's sent to one of Raphael's holdings to help the angel in charge deal with an "issue". Nimra is an angel of some power, though her true ability is a secret. I only wish their relationship could have had some time to grow. Ah, the problem with short stories! Ilona Andrews - 4 stars. I was beside myself with glee - 3 of my favorite authors in one book! This one seemed like it should have a series behind it. It doesn't though. This is the story without sex, & it's a good thing since the heroine is technically a slave to the hero. It seems kind of confusing, but IA does a good job getting you up to speed. At the end you get some female empowerment ( no more slavery!). Sharon Shinn - 4 stars. This is a surprisingly great story. I don't know SS's books, but I'm willing to find out more about them. Angels are part of this stories society. A kitchen maid at a remote school discovers that an angel is staying at the head mistress's house. Moriah has secrets of her own, but curiousity is a major fault of hers. Corban is recovering from an accident in which he was blinded. They bond. I really liked it! Meljean Brook - 3 stars. I like MB steam punk series, but I'm not really crazy about her Guardian series. This one seemed kind of flat to me. I didn't really care much about the hero or heroine. less

16.10.2014 - 4,5*Čtyři povídky. Čtyři originální, skvěle napsané příběhy s úžasnými charaktery. Alphas: Origins - do světa Andrews jsem se úplně zamilovala. Dokáže vystavět takový originální, neotřelý svět, že vždy jen zírám.Angel's Wolf - díky povídky od Singh jsem si přečetla i celou sérii a teď netrpělivě čekám na další díl. Zajímavý příběh, možná ne úplně dokonalý a děj lehce předvídatelný, ale četl se dobře.Nocturne - taková milá, něžná povídka s úžasnou hrdinkou a skvěle zpracovaným nápadem.Ascension - poutavá povídka, která se mi četla dost dobře, jen si nadávám, že jsem si dříve neuvědomila, že je to krátká povídka někde mezi x-tými díly série a já se tak mimoděk dozvěděla spoiler, kdybych teoreticky někdy sérii číst chtěla.Skvělý sborník. :)

Oh yeah, this is a good collection! Angel's Wolf is Guild Hunter #3.5, Alphas: Origins is Alphas #1, Nocturne is Samaria #3.7, and Ascension is Guardians #7.5. Every one of these will make you want to read other writing by the authors. And it's standard Paranormal Romance stuff - unlikely couple falls in love by the end, sometimes before and sometimes after having earth shattering sex and they live HEA.
