review 1: My impression of Candidates was much like the original description if Dancia herself - unspectacular and forgettable, but not altogether unlikable. Although I didn't find anything that stood out (it had the teenage love triangle with 'good boy' and 'bad boy', harrypotter-esque originally uncontrollable power, and a couple side characters) I read the book in a couple of hours, so it wasn't a big waste of time. Also, the main character had some physical similarities that were fun to associate with for a while (I usually don't read about characters that share a birthday, hair color and texture and age with me). That wore off quickly though, and now I'm left wondering why an author would put so much time an effort into the standard teenage-romance-supernatural power book I've ... moreread so much of. So, to wrap things up, I liked it just for the reading material and briefly interesting characters, but there are so many better books in this genre, I wouldn't bother reading this one.
review 2: Main character needed some serious help. At first the author makes her out to be pitiful, strong-willed, and sassy. All I saw her as was a brat. She was over obsessed with Cam whom I saw as a fake pretty boy whom lied to her for just about more than half the book. She listened to his every whim an d pretty much became his puppet which I just hated. Then there are the parts were she is just completely self centered. She dissed her friends and criticized the people who helped her. The only good thing about Dancia was that she was very watchful and responsible about her powers. All in all, I thought Dancia was a self-centered, inconsiderate, and selfish person. However the story was quite good. I loved the idea of the academy recruiting young people with special powers. The mystery aspect of the book gave the book a special touch which kept the reader interested. This book kept me interested until the ending where I started getting sick of the main character and Cam. Other than some character issues, this was a good book. less

It was ok. Very slow due to lack of plot. Too much love triangleness for me.
