The 13th Reality
review 1: The 13th Reality (#3) The Blade of Shattered Hope by James Dashner was by far the most suspenseful, adventurous and action packed novel in this series so far. I have been constantly impressed as I've read each novel in this series. The Blade of Shattered Hope did not disappoint. Starting off with a bang we find our hero Atticus (Tickk) Higginbottom taking a break after a nearly catostrophic episode in the previous novel. However, all is not well. Mistress Jane has located Tick and is set on having ger revenge. More powerful and dangerous Jane plans to take The Blade of Shattered Hope and reak havoc to create her Utopian Reality. With no one safe, including Tick, his family, and friends, we are thrust into a non-stop race to save the world, and the realities as we know them... more. Dashner does an incredible job interweaving characters and plots with high throttle action and suspense. We continue to unearth the mysteries that are at every turn and discover the courage and sacrifices that Tick, Sophia, Paul, Sato, et all must endure. The Blade of Shattered Hope drives with break-neck speed to the very last page, and leaves the reader ready to dive into the final novel to see how everything will end. Two Thumbs Up!
review 2: In many ways, this was like reading an entirely different series with the same characters. It was darker than the other two books and had only one (very weird) riddle. Maybe it marks a turn in Tick’s journey or maybe the author was just in a darker mood. Either way, it felt strange to read it since the others felt so different.Overall, the books have pretty much been self-contained and follow the same pattern. This made reading Blade of Shattered Hope a little bit more boring, but the end made the rest of the book worth it. However, it seems a little bit like filler to get to the next book. less
