review 1: With this book I am officially done with James Patterson. It was bad enough he left us with a cliffhanger with the last Alex Cross book. But then “Unlucky 13” was disjointed and unfinished as well. The Michael Bennett series has been unbelievable for quite a while now and the Private series was never believable. This book was exhausting with its back and forth about the fate of the Cross family. They’re dead! No, they’re alive! Wait they’re dead. Just kidding. They are alive. Kinda. Or maybe not. The writing was better than it has been lately, with fully fleshed out characters, motivations for their actions, and consequences for some. We also got a little more back story about some of the main characters but its too little too late. I am slightly intrig... moreued by Ava though. I’d love to see a mash up of Ava from this series and Letty from John Sanford’s Lucas Davenport series. But can we please let Sandford write it?
review 2: I thought Hope to Die got off to a rocky start because I had trouble buying into the premises presented as the story from Cross My Heart continued. Perhaps it would have been more believable if it had been one book rather than broken into two. Nevertheless, as the story continued I became more invested and enjoyed the crisscrossing journeys as Alex traveled to multiple destinations in the U.S. to solve the latest mystery that held the key to his family members' lives. less

A satisfying, if formulaic, Alex Cross story. No real surprises.
