review 1: This was a page turner from page 1. Sam Capra runs a bar. He is former CIA and is somehow involved with some network but a network that works for the good. Diane's mom is diagnosed with cancer and leaves on a mysterious trip where she is completely out of contact. This gets the daughter thinking and looking to find out why all the mystery. She finds a video that is to played only after her mother dies. This starts the whole shebang. She goes to the bar to see Felix who knows her mother and is attacked by the "bad guys" to get the video. (Her phone has been tapped so the bad guys know about the video.) That gets Sam involved with a network of bad guys and killers and he ends up on the run as well. Perhaps the latest books that I have read have not be so great that... more this one struck a nerve and I was totally into it. It doesn't have much redeeming intellectual value but it sure was fun to read.
review 2: Jeff Abbott is a terrific writer, and he knows how to ratchet up tension, keep readers on the edge of their seats and propel a story with nearly non-stop action. The first two books in the Sam Capra series set a very high standard both for quality of writing and intricate plots that draw readers in. I hope Abbott hasn't lost enthusiasm or ideas for the series because this one didn't quite measure up in my opinion. I felt the will-he-won't-he seesaw of where Sam's loyalties would fall was overplayed to the point of stretching credulity. But there's little else to criticize here, and I look forward to a long life for Sam Capra. less
