review 1: Oh Armentrout, you have done it again. Heres a little riddle: What is better than a book with one Daemon Black (lux series) in it? A book with 2 daemon blacks that make for a love triangle! Armentrout loves to write books with deliciously attractive (not just physically attractive either, although she paints a pretty good picture) boys in it and I cant complain. But aside from that, I really liked Layla and her story. I cant say that I could predict what would happen and thats always nice. A nice spin on a usually and painfully common angel and demon thing. Just the right amount of action, intensity, and sexiness. But what really did it in for me was Roth, who was absolutely amazing! And the cliff hanger at the end will definitely keep me moving to the next book. Sometimes... more I have a hard time articulating how I feel about certain books and I use my own cues to tell me how much I like a book. I can't say its the best book Ive ever read or else this review would be so so much longer and have way more exclamation marks and caps (like my review for the infernal devices) but I can say that I was sneaking around reading this book every extra second, even when I would wake up at like 2 am, Id be up reading it. Or when Id have short breaks at work. So it definitely held my attention.
review 2: I absolutely love reading Jennifer L. Armentrout’s work. I was so excited to see that she had another paranormal series coming out. She greats such interesting worlds and in White Hot Kiss she does it again. I have not yet read another series that uses gargoyles in this fashion. The Wardens are the muscle for the Angels in the fight against Demons. It’s interesting to see their dynamic and how they work, but what was far more interesting for me was Layla her half-warden/half-demon status. She’s something that never should have been allowed to live, but she was and now she’s stuck in a place where she doesn’t fit, dealing with things that no one can really understand, not even her best friend and crush Zayne.I really felt for Layla throughout this entire book. She is treated horribly by the people she lives with. Even when she tries to tell them what is happening with her, they don’t want to listen or they only hear what they want to hear. She thinks, or more specifically hopes, she can trust in Zayne, but that is not always the case and after a while he’s so distracted, she has no one. It’s no surprise that bad boy demon Roth can walk right into her life and give her what she craves, understanding and a connection.I thought I’d go into this and be 100% Team Zayne, but I’m really 95% Team Roth and 5% Team Zayne. I actually really didn’t like Zayne too much in this. He’s always there too little, too late. And although Roth is usually around because he’s kind of a stalker, he actually seemed to care about Layla. I cannot wait to see where this series goes after everything that happened in this book. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed by Jennifer’s newest series and I was right. Bring on the demons and the gargoyles!Arc provided by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review less
