review 1: Oh, man. Shane MacAllister. He's smokin' hot. Do I love him so much b/c I was in college in the 90's and remember it like it was yesterday? I don't know, but that surely is my decade of choice. What's not to love about Pearl Jam, flannels, and jeans?! Anyway, I was hooked immediately with this book -- what a crazy premise -- vampire DJs. And it totally worked. I started reading this to get me in the mood for Halloween and it only made me want to kick myself for not starting the WVMP series sooner. Ciara is fabulous: she's complex and smart with a dubious past. I love that she's in charge of corralling vampires. It's so nutty and funny -- but dark and dangerous. JSR can write anything. She's brilliant. Anyway, Ciara and Shane's chemistry is combustible. That's... more scene between the two of them, back at her place, is burned in my mind. This is not Young Adult fiction (which is what I read by JSR in the past). It's more violent and sexual than I initially expected, but it's turned into one of my favorite series (I've since finished all the WVMP books). I will definitely escape into this world again.
review 2: I love the laid back approach. There was some action 2/3 in but it's not serious badassery. WICKED GAME is very character driven and he focal point is on the world building and character introductions. I like her vampire myth, it follows a few stereotypes like aversion to sunlight and the stake to the heart, etc. but she added her own unique twist to it like her concept of Life Times and how a vamp can be zombie-like if they lacked care. There's a lot of humor and snark, I love the ridiculousness of some of the scenes and Ciara's background as a con artist made WICKED GAME very interesting. The climax was more about outsmarting the enemies than physical battles. There's more to the story of course. I'm just feelin lazy to write a detailed review LOL.
