review 1: This book was a folklore for children ranging in ages 5-8. The book is about a tortoise and a hare who have a race to see who can get to the finish line first. I gave this book a rating of three stars for many reasons. Firstly, the pictures are a little creepy in my opinion for a child to be reading and looking at especially for this to be a picture book. Also, before reading this book I already knew what is was going to be about but giving it to a child for the every first time to read it would be very challenging because there is no plot behind the story, Why are the tortoise and the hare racing, what lead to the race exc. The book just starts out with on your mark get set go! Finally the only words through out the whole book is slow and steady wins the race. as i mentio... morened above there should be background behind the story to why the are racing so the reader understands why the moral of the story slow and steady wins the race is so important. I believe the book does teach a good moral at the end of the book but I believe the book should have more background to it so the child gets a better understanding.
review 2: The Tortoise and The Hare is a children’s book written by Jerry Pinkney about a Hare and a tortoise that lived very different lives. Hare was so quick and did things in a fast manner, while tortoise was so slow doing everything in his life. One day Hare challenged Tortoise to a running challenge, and when Tortoise accepted the Hare thought it was a joke. Hare was a very confident creature whereas Tortoise was not. The illustrations really emphasize the main characters. The illustrations also emphasize the race since that is the main point of the story. The race begins and Hare sprints away leaving Tortoise behind. Along the way Hare sits and rest while he “waits” for Tortoise. After a while he heard cheering because Tortoise won the race. The message of this book is that slow and steady wins the race and even though children might have a hard time understanding that message, the pictures are a great definition of this. less

amazing illustrations, but not as amazing as the lion and the mouse that he did a few years ago.
