review 1: The prequel to this book is one I picked up "for the girls" and ended up reading myself when I couldn't talk them away from their fairy books. I really enjoyed it so I grabbed the sequel when I had a chance. The sequel continues the same atmosphere that the original had. An interesting "mystery" with a great young heroine and her family. I have to acknowledge being frustrated at the end of the book, though. The first was a complete story, so while this is a sequel, it's an entirely different story from the first. So I expected this one would likewise be a self contained story. It was not, ending instead on a cliff hanger right in the middle of the action. I'm not against cliffhangers per se but I wasn't expecting this one and found myself frustrated with half a story...I'l... morel definitely read the sequel when it comes out, though. I really love Castle Glower and its cast of characters. Also, in spite of my lack of success with getting my children interested, both books are great for young children. Elements of fantasy and mystery with a female heroine and an interesting, but not too scary, villain (or is he?). This is one of the rare children's books where both parents are still alive, well and competent, but the young heroine and her beloved castle, are still the center of the story, and save the day.
review 2: LOVED this book. A great continuation of Celie and her family living in the Castle Glower. This time the Castle is acting strangely and no one knows why. Then Celie is given a unique egg from the Castle that she is supposed to take care of. While trying to take care of the egg and the animal inside, she is also trying to figure out the history of the castle, looking for clues to help her figure out why the castle is acting so strangely. less

I can't give it five stars because I'm unhappy about the cliffhanger ending.
