review 1: 4.54.54.54.54.5I really enjoyed the close sibling relationships in this book especially since Celie is younger by quite a bit than the other 3. I loved the humor because it will appeal to juveniles but it was not unnecessarily gross or stupid. There was depth to the story to keep it moving and interesting which helped keep it from being too predictable. I would recommend this book to both boys and girls because it has a great broad appeal.
review 2: Per the recommendation at a book talk of the IL Caudill awards, I attempted to read this aloud to my first graders and it failed to grab any of our attentions. (I would normally have pre-read it, but took a chance due to time constraints.) For the first time ever, I abandoned a book with my class.
