review 1: This book is billed as a romance, but the main couple's romance is definitely not in the forefront. It is more of an ensemble piece which I loved. One of my favorite things in a book is the development of supporting characters. I think Ms. Mansell did a fine job of fleshing out all the side characters and making you care about them. Of course, there were some issues with the book for which I could not give the fifth star. I thought she wrapped up the story a little too tidy. I did not like Ms Mansell's treatment of Stella's character. It was, at times, poignant, but I think it was too conveniently wrapped up. The final thing, and I know this is a picky thing, but the dialogue of the American characters. Some British writers fail to make the adjustment in colloquialisms whe... moren writing the dialogue for American characters. Parker uses the word "cross" instead of "mad" and Macy uses the term "sorted". These are the two examples that just jumped out at me. Unless this kind of thing is blatant, I can usually ignore it and still love a book. Just saying.Overall a very good read.
review 2: This was my first Jill Mansell book. Going through the reviews before i decided to read it, i thought i would enjoy it immensely, but i didn't get there. It was a good book but it just didn't really do anything to me. I wasn't feeling Tilly and Jake's romance. I didn't feel the spark so was surprised by the proposal at the end. Didn't feel Kaye's romance either. It was nice at the beginning but i thought it was rushed. less
