review 1: Sacco is a striking comic artist. His figures and scenes often spill over the edges of frames or approach the reader in sudden, intense zooms. He is also a dogged reporter and historian, and this book is a sobering record of two massacres of Palestinian men by Israeli soldiers during the Suez Crisis of 1956. I loved the way the narrative toggles between the events in 1956 and Sacco in the present day attempting to sift truth from fiction in both oral testimonies and official documents.

His usual method of making himself a comic character and alternating the first person reporting with the historical storytelling is at its best and gets checked for quality and authenticity by an uncompromising sense of lucidity and journalistic ethics. Probably, if that's possible, this is even better than Gorazde and Palestine. less
