review 1: Enjoyed this although it is a sad story (and I am not keen on books in which bad things happen to children). It's set on the island of Öland, about which I knew nothing and which I now feel I know quite a lot about thanks to this book - lovely atmospheric sense of place. There are several mysteries to be untangled here, one relating to the disappearance of a small boy around twenty years before and others further back in time, including the death of another small boy. The novel is set in the 1990s with many flashbacks, and the relationships of neighbours and various families are gradually revealed. Recommended.
review 2: Julia Davidsson has never come to terms with the disappearance of her five-year-old son 20 years ago. One day, Julia's father receives a smal... morel boy's shoe in the mail, and father and daughter begin to piece together the past. The author has created a strong sense of setting and atmosphere. The story works well between flashes between past and present, and the ending was nicely done (although it seemed a little fast). less
