What Are You Reading Wednesday? – King of Thorns

Hi Everyone!

Another Wednesday is upon us and even though it’s much later than I intended, I have a new reading update for you. I was so good with my Sunday post, got it up midday and all, yet here I am once again posting only a couple of hours before bed time…where did the day go?! Really though, I know where it went, it disappeared into the black hole that is often referred to as GROCERY SHOPPING *ominous music playing*. It was madness out in the real world today, people trying to run me over with their carts and such, but I made it home alive and am happy to be snuggled in with my book, my cat and a blanket. BUT BOOKS!

Shall we?

What Are You Reading Wednesday – The Scoop

After months of building friendships with so many bibliophiles on Instagram, a few of my booksta-besties and I have decided to start a weekly meme where we can all gush over what we are reading for the week.

The idea is that each week all of us book bloggers can write a post where we talk about the book or books we are reading for the week – and yes if you are still reading the same book for a few weeks in a row that is totally fine.  Just be sure to include the answers to the five questions for What are you reading Wednesday in your post.  Then hop over to one of the host sites and share your link!

Of course, this will be even more fun if you leave the host a comment, and then jump around to another post or two, or five, and gush with them!

We cannot wait to see what you are reading.

What Are You Reading Wednesday – The Nitty-gritty Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover… and then answer these questions for at least one of them.
  • Why did you decide to pick up this book – cover or content?
  • Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
  • Will you finish this one?
  • Finish the sentence:  This book reminds me of… (other books, movies, tv shows…)
  • What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down,…)

King of Thorns (The Broken Empire #2) by Mark Lawrence

    Synopsis from Goodreads:

The second book in the Broken Empire series, Lawrence takes his young anti-hero one step closer to his grand ambition.

To reach greatness you must step on bodies, and many brothers lie trodden in my wake. I’ve walked from pawn to player and I’ll win this game of ours, though the cost of it may drown the world in blood…

The land burns with the fires of a hundred battles as lords and petty kings fight for the Broken Empire. The long road to avenge the slaughter of his mother and brother has shown Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath the hidden hands behind this endless war. He saw the game and vowed to sweep the board. First though he must gather his own pieces, learn the rules of play, and discover how to break them.

A six nation army, twenty thousand strong, marches toward Jorg’s gates, led by a champion beloved of the people. Every decent man prays this shining hero will unite the empire and heal its wounds. Every omen says he will. Every good king knows to bend the knee in the face of overwhelming odds, if only to save their people and their lands. But King Jorg is not a good king.

Faced by an enemy many times his strength Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. But playing fair was never part of Jorg’s game plan.

So if you saw my post from last Wednesday, you’ll probably recognize the fact that I’m reading book two of a trilogy. Last week I finished the first book Prince of Thorns (you can see my post about it here) and I loved it so much that I immediately started the second one. It’s not often I do that, usually I like to take a break from whatever world I’m reading about, but with this one I NEEDED more Jorg!

  • Why did you decide to pick up this book? – cover or content? I picked this book up, because JORG IS AMAZING AND I NEED MORE OF HIS MONSTROUSNESS IN MY LIFE!! *ahem* Sorry, sorry, I got a little over excited. Seriously though, the first book blew my mind with how different it was. Jorg starts out so young, but because of his rage-fueled life, you often forget how young he is. Then your reminded of his age like you’ve just been slapped and it just makes the story all the more intriguing. Needless to say, after finishing the first book I absolutely needed to start the second so I could discover Jorg’s fate and how he fares moving forward into adulthood.
  • Who is your favorite character so far, and why? Jorg of course! He so compelling!! He does horrible things and has such a dark soul, but I can’t help but love him. Especially now that he’s starting to see more in shades of grey as opposed to straight up black and white. I also still love Makin, honestly I would love to read a book just about him. I also find myself really enjoying Katherine, she’s a lot more badass than people think she is, and then I really enjoy Gorgoth and little Gog (Gooooooggggggg *sobbing*).
  • Will you finish this one? Psh, do I even need to answer this? *whispers* yeeessssss.
  • Finish this sentence: This book reminds me of…Prince of Thorns, but on steroids. (Is that cheating?)
  • What type of read is this? This is a slower read for me then the first one, but I also don’t want to put it down. It’s slower because there is so much happening. We’re going back and forth in time, getting bits and pieces of memory and hints of what’s to come. I definitely get the impression that there is lots of foreshadowing in this book and you really have to pay attention to all of the clues to get a clear picture, still, I’m absolutely loving it.

SO, obviously I’m obsessed with these books, and I’ve decided that I need to read everything Mark Lawrence writes because his books are amazing. If you love a dark fantasy I HIGHLY recommend this series. Now keep your fingers crossed for me, I’m hoping I get some book store gift cards for Christmas so I can buy the rest of his books. Hey! Don’t forget to leave your link or answer the questions about your current read in the comments, I love seeing what you all are reading. Until next time… Advertisements Share this:
