review 1: I read this because I'm jumping into the online publishing world and I have to say this was not a great read. It read like an infomercial (especially the first quarter of the book) where he kept trying to tell me what great ideas this book contained without a great assessment of how to accomplish his marketing strategy. There was one or two good ideas and I'm sure that he has more (as he has sold a lot of books), but his organization and writing kept me from absorbing much. It felt like he was constantly trying to sell me the book when I'm already reading it. I kept hearing the, "but wait, there's more!" voice in my head as I read it. As it's only three bucks, I don't feel cheated, but I certainly didn't find it helpful and I really have no interest whatsoever of reading a... morenything else (fiction or otherwise) from this author.I would suggest "Not a Gold Rush-The Taleist Self-Publishing Survey" as a much better guide of how to succeed in the epublishing world.
review 2: John Locke offers us enough insight into himself for those who want to, to model or copy not just his actions, but also his beliefs about why those actions are important and effective. And, no, just because I think it's simple to model doesn't mean I think it will easy to implement - but that's my problem not his.As a woman who also gave far more weight to the number of presentations booked rather than any figures pulled out of the bum of a wanna-be in a bad suit who wasn't prepared to walk the talk - I appreciated John's time-saving, straight-from-hip style. No - it is isn't rocket science. And yes I'm sure you could trawl all over the internet and find people who've tried something similar and then failed to implement it. But, seriously, do you have the time when this costs under two quid?? If you do I suggest you're not managing your time well. For me the big advantage to this book is it's short, directly and immediately to the point on how to promote your books (and much more) and some of the subtleties, that I noticed some reviewers appear to have completely missed, would make the difference between success and failure.I recommend it.FYI I don't know him, have never met him, not emailed him etc and I'm not sure I'd like his fiction books (although I might try one) - but I do like his advice a LOT. less
