review 1: Hard to classify this book." Love the main character Nombeko from S. Africa. She's a little like Lizbeth from the GIrl with the Dragon Tattoo. And It has " a cast of eccentrics: a nerve-damaged American Vietnam deserter, twin brothers who are officially only one person, three careless Chinese girls, an angry young woman, a potato-growing baroness, the Swedish king and the prime minister." Quirky, wacky, funny, but utterly unique.
review 2: I really enjoyed the debut novel from Jonas Jonasson "The one hundred year old man who stepped out of the window and disappeared", and I was really eager to start the follow up "The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden".This novel didn't disappoint at all. I really enjoyed it and I find Jonasson's writing style quite refreshin... moreg. The plot of this novel is expansive, with the main action taking place in South Africa and Sweden along a timespan of several decades. Along with its predecessor, the plot twists and turns are quite unbelievable in nature. However, as it is delivered in a dead pan style, along with some great observational humour throughout and intermingled with real world factural historical events, it is quite easy to really engage with the story line. less
