review 1: International Political Satire Greatness. So many topsy-turvy twists and turns with a character set and plot that reminded me of The Gran Budapest Hotel (movie). I think it would be truly wrong of me to say that I learned some things about Sweden, and South Africa, but it's true; I did. Now if only I knew enough to be able to distinguish fact from fiction! I liked the book enough to give it 5 stars but it just doesn't have the merits of my other 5 star choices even though I found it well written and entertaining.
review 2: This wacky novel was surprisingly delightful. Nobenko, a poor South African incredibly smart child grows up to have many adventures. She becomes an indentured servant to an idiotic drunk head of a nuclear facility where she becomes friends w
... moreith 3 Chinese sisters who are also falsely enslaved. Learning their language comes in handy. Much ensues. Told parallel to this is the story of the identical twin Swedish brothers Holger. Written like a children's fairy tale in a simple straight forward manner this novel was so disarming. I really enjoyed it. Interesting characters and strange twists. I did feel a bit disappointed by the epilogue which changed voices back to the beginning and that didn't feel necessary. less
