review 1: I feel completely mixed about this read. The art was great. The feeling that as a team they are suffering yet moving forward after Johnny's death. The inclusion of what felt like 80% of the Fantastic Fours supporting cast going back to their creation felt like an awesome inclusion of their history (not to mention highlighting that some of these characters have changed quite a bit for comic characters). The main plot was intensely interesting, from the threat of evil Reeds to the creation of a symposium of villains on how to beat them. All of that was great... yet for some reason it felt lacking. I can't really put my finger on it yet. Maybe it's just that the story only feels started in this volume and once I get to more of it this nagging feeling will fall away. I... more don't know.
review 2: OK, this new 'FF' Future Foundation/Fantastic Four is a solid book.Though they haven't quite figured out what to do with Spider-Man in the team...This carries on ideas from the last while of Fantastic Four, with the Family helping none other than Dr. Doom recover his memories and abilities! It also involves a council of high intellect antagonists (Doom, Mad Thinker, High Evolutionary, Diablo, etc.) welcomed in by Valeria, and a rather not-so-eager Reed. When you find out why the council was created, then things get interesting!Meanwhile, Ben is still coming to grips with Johnny's death, and Reed's father Nathaniel is back permanently after travelling through time and helps compare parenting tips for highly genius children with his son.I enjoyed the ideas here, where Hickman has just enough of them to be interesting but not too many that it just loses the plot (which it did in some of the earlier FF volumes he wrote). This sets up a VERY interesting Vol. 2, and I really look forward to seeing what happens. If you're not a fan or didn't like the original Fantastic Four, this is an interesting place to get on board, and possibly one that you might enjoy more. less
