review 1: Beautifully written by a college professor, the book is essentially a love story-on many levels. I agree with the Book Club discussion at the end of the book that Nauture is actually a main character in the story and there's a strong "sense of place" since the author is writing about the area where he lives. Transitions in time flow smoothly, a potential problem in a book covering a number of years, and the dialog between characters is fresh and real. It's a modern story in a timeless setting.
review 2: Two brothers rescue a young girl from a frozen river and their lives become forever intertwined. The language in this book is beautiful. One of my favorite lines is when the father and one of the brothers are in his truck and the father asks him if he wants to
... more talk and says "a father needs to make himself available at times like this" or words to that effect. It could easily be someone's diary, nothing specatular, but is so well told you just want to know what happens to the characters. Could very well make my top ten list this year. less
