review 1: I thought I'd dip into this for some light weekend reading. Apparently there is such a thing as too light. This felt almost insubstantial. Not the book's fault, maybe something happened to me I don't have the patience for (what I thought was pointless) banter anymore. I wonder how I used to love this stuff. But let us focus on its redeeming qualities: I like that Olivia is beautiful but does not depend on it as her identity. I like the frivolous-acting Sebastian Grey. His drawing room performance was so lovably silly and made me think, "Yup. We're in a JQ book all right." Julia Quinn's characters just seem to get into the most humorously undignified situations. But overall this felt too fluffy for me, even with the kidnapping. The thought of lurid gothic novels being a hit w... moreith Russian royalty does bring a smile to one's face though.Small aside: I'd just finished another book where Harry is the female lead's name, so now and then when this book mentioned the name I'd think it was the female character. Had to shake my head to clear it and remind myself that Harry was the male here. I think also because JQ also has a heroine called Henry. Felt a little mixed up, is all.

This book started funny with a lot of promiss; but unfortunately after the setup, and if I'm generous after the first half; nothing really happens. All the promiss of the first pages seems forgotten and our two main characters fall in love without anything or anyone putting up any resistance. Ofcourse there is the Russion prince, but Julia Quinn quickly terminates that possible danger in a most ridiculious and easy manner. And her parents seem to be sleeping all day long. I was sorry that the promiss was not fullfilled.

Not as moving as the first book in the series although sufficiently entertaining and funny. The Olivia we know in the previous book shines less in this one. Too bad when she's the lead here and we're supposed to appreciate her more. I like it that Harry wasn't averse to recognizing himself in love and not even slightly afraid of declaring himself; out of the overflow of his heart, it all comes out from his mouth.

NOTHING happens in this book. Literally nothing. But it was fun to read and I really enjoyed it.
