review 1: I don't know if this is because the book is written by a Dane and I am an American, but I found the characters, particularly the main character of police detective Carl Morck, not very believable or enjoyable. He seemed fairly misogynistic (and why read about that in the hero of the book when I can see that every day in real life?). Fiften year-old Marco's life was interesting in a brutal kind of way, but he was unbelievably good and nice, given the way he had been raised and his genetic material. Still, the plot was interesting and I read on to see if Marco would escape being found by his evil uncle Zola and if he would help the detective figure out what happened to Stark. Stark was a kind of interesting character, both good and bad at the same time. The story seemed real... moreistic (except for Marco's goodness and Carl's overpreoccupation with sex) but not very happy.
review 2: Adler-Olsen never disappoints. This was every bit as good from the first page to the last. The young boy trying to elude everyone manages to capture the imagination and the empathy of the reader. The undoing of the bad guys is a bit Hollywood, but it is satisfying. And Department Q continues to unfold. A new person has now become part of the team. Let's see how he copes in the basement of the police department with Rose and Assad. less

I struggled to finish this book. It was a little too slow for me.
