review 1: I love how the main characters' background stories get slowly revealed over 4 books, and yet there is still so much more to learn. Rose and Assad, Carl's sidekick assistants, are very entertaining and endearing. And whenever Carl ventures upstairs from the basement into HQ, it seems he can never encounter anyone rational, from his sense of normal anyway. His ex-wife, his tenant, his step-son - it just seems to Carl like everyone's purpose in life is to annoy him. This Danish series, with the typically grim atmosphere Scandinavian books seem to have (that I am hooked on), still manages to have a lot of fun.
