review 1: I've never read a m/m book before, but sometimes I need to put a bit of change into my reading habits. So I decided t stick to the genres I like, but change up the f/m to m/m and damn I read that book within 2 days, which is fast for me; even if I was really tired I couldn't put it away, because I needed to know the outcome.I liked the dynamic between Mac and Tony, they made a great couple, but I have to admit I didn't like everything, but I think it's because it was either my first book in this genre or it's just 98% my thing. Anyway, I was quite surprised at how determined Tony was to be with Mac even with all the things he had to keep up with, because Mac wasn't out yet. In my opinion he sacrificed more than Mac and even if I understood why Mac lived the way he lived, I... more didn't agree with him a 100%. But apparently they so far made it work. The case was good, but as I'm an impatient reader some of the detective work scene dragged a bit, but the case in general was totally okay and didn't feel anticlimactic in the end. The only thing I really didn't like was the way Tony mourned Marty or better how he didn't mourn him, a couple of tears and that's it, it didn't feel right. But I liked the book, already got the other ones and I hope I will like them as much as the others.
review 2: I was hooked from the first page through to the very last. Every character is created and crafted with care to make them inviting and irresistible, including the minor characters. When the story turns romantic between the two main characters, it is the natural result in response to their prior interaction in the story. The story foreshadows well, hinting ahead so that when twists and turns occur, they appear to be as natural to the characters and the story as real life itself. The sex scenes are hot, intense and yet fit the story arch very, very well. To someone who knows both worlds, teaching and law enforcement, Tony Hart and Jared "Mac" MacLean are very credible and entirely believable as openly gay school teacher and deeply closeted cop. They both have relatively good lives that get better by falling for one another while trying to solve the murder that Tony witnesses in his own high school setting. The simple way to express how reading it makes me feel is to slightly misquote Dickens in Oliver Twist: "Please, ma'am, I want some more." less
