review 1: The sixth book in the Cassandra Palmer series, and I can’t believe I didn’t know this was out ages ago!! How did I miss that?I dived into this with anxious anticipation, dying to know what had happened to Pritkin and what Cassie was going to do about it.And boy, did it deliver. Some more crazy adventures to get the information Cassie needed, as well as more about her own history along the way.The journey into Hell was interesting, and it was great to finally have Pritkin there, like a warm, poofy duvet you just want to snuggle under and huddle under all day. Not sure where things are going with Mircea, since Cassie and he both seem to be avoiding each other, but I think they’ve got some significant things to talk about in the future.The I’m glad moment with Cass... moreie and Pritkin was both wonderful and frustrating – typical of their relationship really – and the ending.Oh. My. God. The ending. I just about had a conniption, and November seems far to far away for me to wait until I can get my hands on the next book, because I need it NOW.
review 2: Still living at Mircea's and now he just calls people to tell her what to do. Ain't it grand! What I like though, was the fact that at least there was not much of that in the book. I like the character more than Dorina, but she really needs to get off the Mircea wagon and start getting on her own feet. The vamps treat her like a indulgent tool, they would like to keep in one piece in order to do their bidding. She is supposed to be Pythia and I get that she had no training, but she hasn't even look at possible support. She just constantly leans on others. In this book less then previous of the series and at least she creates her own team to go to hell, but it's simply not enough. She needs to make her own alliances and stay away from Mircea. I don't get her obsession with Mircea. He is the boss/maker of the person that killed her parents (He didn't know? Logic train just left the station. And lets say he didn't and found out after the fact. He didn't seem concerned. And for him that is fine. For her it shouldn't be). He never gives her any information and thus puts her in greater danger than if he would have not withheld information. In other words, he is not trustworthy. Some might argue that he helped protect her. The motive of that is clear. She is useful and there is no better debt than that of gratitude. He said he loves her. He is a professional liar! He put a spell on her to make sure she wouldn't leave, he tracks her as if she was a criminal and he sent her a lover to get what he wanted. He also talks down to her and pats her on the head as if she is a retard. I am fed up with this radioactive relationship going in circles. At least she uses him for food, board and entertainment. But, it's starts being a very one sided benefit. She saved both of his brothers, his life and most of the senate. She got him a vamp alliance. Now it's time to get on her own feet. I hope she goes and get's Pritkin and then get's her court up and running in consequence gets from under the vampire's thumb. I kind of grew fonder of Pritkin. He is not the most likable person, but he seams to care rather than pretend to care. He seams more genuine and it also seam that his abrasiveness is more a way to guard himself and others from him. He's a bit quick to judge and temperamental. But, with all those flaws a reader knows who he is, He's more real. I read the Dorina Basarab series and I like Mircea even less. Not due to what happened in those books, but rather in what perspective those books showed Cassie. It only reinforced my view of how little, beyond her usefulness does Cassie represent to the senat member. He's just a smooth talking manipulator. less
