review 1: I grew to dislike this book the more I read of it. The first half was much better than the second half, and then it went all downhill. First of all, there was no more sexual tension--which is what usually keeps me glued to a good romance novel in the first place--in the second half of the book. In fact, there were no "juicy parts" (intimate sex scenes) in the last third of the book whatsoever. The remainder of the book was supposed to be some big mystery. But most of the mystery disappeared by the time the Gypsy's identity was discovered, and it was no longer a mystery to me who the identity of the Gypsy was by the time it was revealed. The mystery of the Gypsy's identity was revealed about 2/3rds-3/4s of the way through the book, and I had predicted the identity lon... moreg before that time. Many of the conversations were confusing and unnecessary for the plot. In fact, much of the book could have been erased, and you wouldn't even miss it. Several small points bothered me about this book. 1. There was no immediate identification to which time period this story was to be taking place. The only indicators were that there was some identification to Napoleon and to the publication of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", which was written in the early 1800s. 2. The main couple, Tess and Jack, had created a son together, but they dropped him off somewhere and then go traipsing across the English countryside together without a thought to his well-being for the second half of the book. 3. A big deal was made throughout the book about how Jack and his brothers were "bastards", children born out-of-wedlock. For the modern age reader, however, this is not an important attribute as it may have been of one during the Victorian period.
review 2: A satisfying end to the Blackthorn Brothers trilogy.Strong willed man + strong willed woman with history join forces to face their respective families.Rediscovering each other, discovering the truth about themselves and various family members.Took full advantage of events from the prior volume as a way to tie up a few of the storylines...but there are some characters that might be appearing in other stories. Or maybe not. I am glad I gave these a shot when I found them at the library. less

Maybe it's the accumulation of the characters, but this was the best of the trilogy.
