review 1: The author did a great job in opening the discussion on sexuality. Sexuality not being definite or defined as people expect. The book would have been better if Jane and Blaize's relationship history were fully presented. The book begins with Lady Jane's return to the London home she once shared with her husband Blaize Minshom in the hope of effecting a reunion. Married for 10 years and separated for last 7. The reason for their separation was the death of the son Nicholas.During her exile at their country home along with her father-in-law, she found diaries detailing the abuse he inflicted on his son, her husband. The Gentleman's Club, a 3-generation gladiator type school - Sparta like. Blaize was forced to fight as the loss would inflict not only physical pain but forced... more sex of the winner to the loser.Jane is comfortable with Blaize's dominant sexuality but we don't have the ability to see how she came to that as we have no background. She is further comfortable with his bisexuality and encourages it during a session at Madame Helene's bordello. The story wrapped up too quickly, however, as Blaize attempts to reconcile with her father, with Robert (releasing him to David Gray) and with a former opponent, and of course with Jane as they come to expect another child.
review 2: WOW. This was my favorite book of the series (so far)! I never would have expected that to be the case. Minshom was a complete bastard in the previous book and I remember thinking "there is no way she can redeem this man." But lo... Kate Pearce did it. I'm still marveling at it. She effortlessly made Minshoms actions understandable and his reasons sympathetic. Jane was also an intriguing character, a wonderful woman who refused to give up on him even when everyone was telling her that she should. The issues and trauma in this book felt so real and genuine that I teared up on more than one occasion. And I had a real sense of Blaize's love for Jane and hers for him. The love scenes were so hot and so steamy and I owe that 100% to the emotional connection between these characters. Truly, this book was amazing. less
