review 1: Young twin brothers decide to make a raft and sail to the sea. The raft falls apart and their father has to decide which child to save from drowning. The little boy Ned is saved, but the entire village believes the father saved the wrong boy. And so begins this fairy tale of a story that I was quite enchanted with. This was shelved in "juvenile fiction" at my library but reads a lot like the Young Adult author Shannon Hale.
review 2: I received an advance reading copy of this book as part of one of the goodreads giveaways. I think I went into this thing a little bit biased against the book (if it's so good, why are they giving it away for free?), but I cared what happened to these characters before the end of chapter one (which is only about two pages long, an
... moreyway). It had magic and mystery (maybe too much occasionally, but still) and sadness and hope. I really enjoyed it. less
