review 1: The only reason I gave this book 2 stars is because I didn't actually enjoy the story. The writing was awesome as usual with this author, and the creepy parts were... CREEPY, But I just didn't enjoy reading about how bad the characters got. I didn't like all the demons and possessing and wildness there was to everything. There was also a love "square"? where every guy in the book tried to move on the girl.... Actually, it was technically a love PENTAGON because the demon/villain thing wanted the girl too, so.... I found myself frowning or grimacing a lot from the yucky or demonic themes. And this all just to reach the point where Victor finally said goodbye to his brother and there was the climax of finally letting go for everyone. I am not sure it was worth it to make it ... morethrough to the end...
review 2: 4.5 StarsWarning! Mild spoilers ahead!I really liked this book. In my opinion, it was better than the first book. I loved stories that are sort of creepy, and that's exactly what this book was. There are demons, communication with the dead, soulless bodies, and life-sucking monsters. What's not to like? Well, the only thing I can think of is the love pentagon. That's right- it a whole pentagon of emotional confusion. Triangles are bad enough but pentagons, really? I mean, this isn't geometry. In addition, although the one female character was strong, she was oblivious for most of the novel. But, she had a good reason so I suppose I'll forgive the author. (Those who have read the book will know what I'm talking about). In short, it was a pretty good book!I recommend this book for, YA readers who are not easily disturbed. less
