review 1: This is one of those books where I liked it a lot but most of the time it drove me crazy. I have never read the original Frankenstein story but I know enough about it to tell that Victor Frankenstein is a genius but also a madman. This book is unique because it shows you how he becomes this way. He is the kind of character that you are rooting for at times and than are against at other times and his motives aren't always clear, which sort of makes him both the protagonist and one of the main antagonists at the same time. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good fantastical adventure and doesn't mind some really weird romance.
review 2: Maybe it was because of the mood I am currently in or just not appealing, but I didn't care much for the book. T... morehe writing was okay for the first half. But it wasn't great. Then it got really dark really fast. I tried my best not to compare the writing or the story to "The Monstrumologist" by Rick Yancey. But that nearly impossible. The gore and violence in the book were not well done and came off as disturbing. In other books of the same realm, it can seem as though it is necessary. This did not. I could barely finish this book. Also, the idea of the love story was simply silly. Did he just decide to fall in love with Elizabeth after taking a potion?! Really?! But I could be overly critical because I have a lot going on right now. It was nearly impossible not to compare it "The Monstrumologist" even though the subject matter is different. The sad part is that I truly wanted to like the book! It seems so interesting. And yet, I couldn't. less
