review 1: This book was better than the previous two, if only because it finally gave us some much wanted answers regarding Risa's situation. She was finally given the clue to finding the second key, and hopefully, that's what will be happening in the next book.. fingers crossed! Reading about council and directorate business gets tedious when it isn't actually important to the story line. I mean, yeah, astral travel and Rakshasas are cool, but we don't really care about that! We just want the damn fillers to be over with and the story to proceed!!Having my suspicions thrown in my face in this book felt both good and annoying at once. Good because it gave me that momentary Aha! feeling, the one where you're proud of yourself for having guessed right. On the other hand, it was annoyin... moreg because the clues were right there, and I bet that everyone other than our dear horny heroine saw it coming form a whole lot of miles away. The resolution for Risa and Azriel to finally step into the next step of their relationship, though long awaited, feels forced and lacks the joy I was hoping it would include. Instead of it being the happy and loving occasion that it should be, it left me feeling somewhat like they just wanted to get it over with. This whole book bore enough resemblances to the regular Riley books that it could easily have been a part of that series if you merely replaced all the appropriate character names, and I'm starting to feel like Ms. Author has a standard plot that she follows in each and every book she writes. And though it was amusing to read throughout Riley's stories (mostly because Quinn was there to entertain us on our journey), it has gotten rather predictable (to put it nicely).Anyway, it is beyond safe to say that once this series is done, I will definitely part ways with Ms. Arthur's writing and move on to greener (better) pastures.
review 2: Despite having never read the previous three books in the series, it was easy to follow along with this book. I was captivated from the first few pages, reading the entire book on the way to NYC a few weeks ago. It was a great mix of fantasy and reality, and despite knowing that it was set in a fictional world of magic, it felt like it could have taken place in any big city of America. I can't wait to get the rest of the series! less
