review 1: A rather plodding police procedural with some pretty lame dialogue in the early parts of the book. It might have been throughout but I was skim-reading by then. I struggled to get into it and there was no sense of drama or tension. There was too much boring detail in some parts. The plot was quite predictable although the book got a little better towards the end, hence to two stars. I might be inclined to try one more book by this author eventually.
review 2: I am undecided what I thought of this book, and finished it with quite lukewarm feelings. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either, there was nothing in particular that I didn't like about it, just as there was nothing I particularly liked about it. I was a little disappointed with the ending as I'd wo... morerked out who had done it early on in the book, so it just confirmed my thoughts, but throughout i was hoping id be wrong. I felt at times there was too many long winded descriptions where not necessarily needed -describing their flat and the station for example, where I just wanted it to get on with the story and give more detail about this, it was however a nice change to read a book set in a different place to the usual -the reason for my intrigue to read the book originally being that I am from Manchester. The book is quite easy reading-I got through it in less than a week just by picking it up here and there to read a chapter. I suppose the key factor is whether I will read the rest of the trilogy?! Well I am going to carry on and read number 2 as I feel I enjoyed it enough to continue and complete the set. less
