review 1: My daughter and I read this together this past week. It's the tale of a girl, soon turning 10, going on her annual trip to Sanibel Island, FL. Just a few pages in, and we were hooked, so much so that we've now booked a trip to Sanibel Island this year. It's a lovely story, full of ups and downs, beauty and sadness. Some of the themes had to be explained to my daughter since she's only 7, but she got the gist of it. It's a great book for mothers and daughters to read together.
review 2: This was a slow read that I wasn't feeling very fond of until Marie told me that she doesn't just like or love this book, she "TREASURES IT (intense eyes)" I guess I can see why. It delves into the everyday-think of an only child, her insecurities and aspirations, her jealousy
... moreover sharing the attention of her favorite adults, her struggle to be kind to and resulting irritations with younger children. As a parent who prizes critical thinking, I appreciated that it was devoid of conventional religion but thoughtful about death and the universe and unseen forces, and that it poses the question of whether all authority ought to be respected/venerated without question. less

It was boring so I put it back. I read to page like 60 something and i didn't really like it.
