review 1: Cuentos en los que Kurt Vonnegut da pequeñas pinceladas de una humanidad superficial, ignorante, con bondad mal correspondida, etc. Un Vonnegut por partes pero aún así disfrutable. Pese a que los cuentos están en función de la crítica social-reflexión que deben provocar -pues ese es el propósito-, se nota esa capacidad para contar una historia, adaptando tal o cual tema a una situación. Y la verdad es que el resultado no es nada malo. Los que más me gustaron: "Señorita Snow, está usted despedida", "París, Francia", "La cartera del cretino" y "Roma".Ahora, no entiendo porqué en el libro aparece un ensayo de Vonnegut y a su vez un cuento sin acabar. ¿Qué tenía que hacer esto aquí? La sensación que da es que fue solo para incluir ese material extra, de rell... moreeno, de "ocupar espacio". Sobretodo lo del ensayo: no me convence que en un libro de cuentos aparezca un texto de ese tipo. Puede sonar ridículo y exagerado pero es que si es un libro de cuentos debe haber solo cuentos.En general, las historias que contiene el libro son interesantes -incluso pueden sorprender- pero por ese detalle de añadir cosas que poco tienen que ver -para mi- reduce su valor de manera importante.
review 2: It's so nice to read the works of a true legend, even if they were his writings that either went unfinished or weren't quite up to snuff with his normal stuff, you can see the quality in the ideas and the elegance of the exposition. It's sorta inspiring, in a sad kind of way, to know that some of these writings are probably better than a large percentage of works being published today.This is a collection of six fiction stories and one long non-fiction essay. I didn't care so much for the non-fiction essay, it was well written, but the large majority of the references were over my head.The fiction short stories were really great though. I especially loved "Paris, France" for Vonnegut's ability to make me care about five different characters through the span of about 10 pages. Really amazing writing. less
