review 1: This is my first experience with L.A. Witt's books. Almost every reviews I read sort of informing that this story is only the first of two parts. So, I decide to wait until book #2 was out. I must say that I am charmed with this short story!! The secret of the charm, I think, it's the adorable character in the narrator (Elliott) and the off-the-bat chemistry he has with Derek. It's not very often, when a story is written from 1st person, that you can get that chemistry with the love interest so strongly, because it is always feel a bit one-sided. You don't know what the other person is thinking. Not this time though. It probably helps because Elliott and Derek have that long chit-chat while they are waiting for the flight, so you kind of able to get an idea about Derek and... more his philosophy of life. Elliot's thoughts are amusing as well, can't help to giggle several times.I thoroughly enjoy this set-up. While I know that it will end up somehow in the hotel (it's kind of predictable, when it comes to that, you know that the plane will be delayed to give chance for our MCs to have sex :p) but it is done with entertaining mood and just the right amount of seduction, it's so sexy and hot. Now, I can't wait to read their adventure in Maui!!
review 2: L.A. Witt’s Getting of the Ground is a super hot tale about Elliott Chandler who decides to go on his honeymoon despite being dumped by his fiancé. He gets stuck in the Seattle airport because of snow and meets hunky Derek, who is flying home to Hawaii. The two men strike up a conversation, discover they have a lot in common and wind up in bed together that night. The entire novella takes place in a 24 hour period, which I thought was very inventive and original. The short novella is told from the perspective of Elliott, who is very pragmatic and set in his ways. It was wonderful to see Elliott change into more of a risk-taker as the book progresses, thanks to Derek’s influence. The reader is rooting for Elliott the whole time, so this turnabout is a welcome transformation that feels real and organic. I eagerly await the sequel, Infinity Pools, as I cannot wait to see what Elliott and Derek get up to next! This is the first book by L.A. Witt I have read and she does live up to her reputation for hot sex scenes and well-developed characters. This is a fun, quick read that I think most readers of m/m romance will enjoy. 4 stars.Dark Divas Reviews less
