review 1: 5*****StarsThe first part of this series, A Chip On His Shoulder was a stunning 5*****Star read for me. Ms. Witt gave us a world of the haves and the have nots. The Haves lived above the crumbling Gutter, with light from the sun, clean air and all the best in life. Science had brought them to Mods, modifications that when purchased could give them mortality, strength, replacement limbs and anything else money could by. But the price....Scientific Corporations manufactured the Mods; production was in factories in The Gutter, where grey unseeing people worked shifts to produce what the rich needed. Their world was a smelly heap of garbage, where thieves, murder and fear lurked around every corner.Liam Lansing and Daniel Harding began their lives living in Sky. Liam was a vam... morepire. His parents were rich enough to buy mortality for their family. He had nanobots that could repair injuries even faster than a natural vampire. Daniel his lover was the son and heir of Richard Harding CEO of Cybernetics a firm that made all these enhancements.Liam was tossed from his family and Sky and lived in the Gutter for five years, struggling to keep himself alive. He finally honed out an existence by becoming an assassin for the rich. It bought him a small apartment and gadgets from his tech team.Daniel was a quiet young man, and did not believe in his fathers business so he worked hard joining an underground movement to thwart the enhancements. He was not without secrets, but he worked diligently to over throw his father. In the first book Richard Harding hired an assassin Liam Lansing to kill his son. When the two young men finally came face to face after five years separation killing was not on Liam’s mind.Together at last these two young men champion a cause to bring Daddy Harding down. As I mentioned, Daniel was not without secrets and that plot twist was a wonderful turn of events, making the story even more thrilling. The side characters were wonderful as well, and we meet Gizmo the teckky who can do anything. We meet Venus also who shares this story as well. The story is good vs evil, rich vs poor, and when good wins and all the flags go up...So will they? Can this all be solved? Ms. Witt I bow to the wonderful story you have written, the wonderful world you have built and I again give you a second 5*****Star...Outstanding!Review by Gloria LakritzSr Reviewer and Review Chair for the Paranormal Romance Guild
review 2: Something New Under the Sun by L.A. Witt, the second book in the Falling Sky series, picks up right where A Chip in His Shoulder left off as reunited lovers/pseudo-enemies Liam and Daniel continue with their plan to bring down Daniel's corrupt father who has nefarious plans for the wealthy vampire community. After Daniel's father makes a particularly aggressive move against Daniel, he and Liam and their eclectic band of warriors have to do what they never thought they'd have to to make things right. The beginning of this story picks up seamlessly where the action left off previously. Even if you haven't read the previous installment though it's quite easy to immerse yourself in this futuristic world of the haves and have-nots. The descriptions of the dark, toxic, and gritty Gutter where the less-desirables live and the glamourous and pristine Sky where the rich and elite reside are vivid and dramatically show these socioeconomic differences. The action-packed sequences are heartpounding and keep you on the edge of your seat and present us with two men unexpectedly forced into being heroes against their will. These men aren't happy having to do what must be done, but do it nonetheless. The vampiric aspects of Liam aren't highlighted, they're merely touched on. The more important thing about him is his technological modifications that enhance his vampiric abilities. That's what's always been the roadblock between him and Daniel. Once desperate measures arise Daniel realizes that the heart of the man counts more than the modifications as he too has to do what he never thought he'd have to do. Even when some issues keep them apart, the few sexual interludes in the story show their truely intense emotions. These scenes are nicely blended into the action and are steamy and gritty. With their lives on the line these interludes speak of their desperation to find even one moment of happiness as things fall apart around them and even when they couldn't speak their emotions freely their actions did the talking. The secondary characters of Felix, Venus, and particularly Gizmo came on the scene like gangbusters. They were warrior-geeks who fought just as hard to make things right. Gizmo was especially intriguing through a barely hinted at background story and a snarky attitude that totally won me over and has me dying to know more about him. Here's hoping Ms. Witt hears my pleas! From start to finish the romantic and action-packed rollercoaster ride was a memorable one. From its unique characters to heart stopping action scenes this was another satisfying installment to a wonderfully entertaining series that hope continues on even though this story wrapped up with a delightful HEA. less
