The Hero
review 1: 3.5 lovey dovey stars.Oooookay. So of course I went through this book like a brand new container of Nutella because it was about a MAN IN UNIFORM. I repeat. MAN. IN. UUUUUUNIFORM. I kind of sort of have a little tiny completely crazy obsession for them.. Sooooo. Anyway the review..OMG. So this was a book about a tortured hero and a heroine who was abused as a child. He was her saving grace as well as her brothers. Him and the brother were best friends and did everything together and eventually went off to war together. The poor sexy beast had a bad experience during battle and was sent home. She also came home after college. So basically she wanted to try being his hero because of his PTSD, but he's a complete dick a lot of the time because it was 'wrong' to want to screw ... morehis brothers 'sister'. Whatever. Here's why this book DID NOT get 5/5 stars (and here come the spoilers):1) he's a complete dick to her right when they see each other and she tells him she is working where he works by saying very rudely, “I get too busy behind the bar to be able to keep an eye on you,” like, WTF?!?!!? She never asked for your protection!!!! I just don't think that someone would actually say that, that straightforward.2) by the 18th page (at least on my ebook) his whole reasoning behind his dickishness is already splayed out and known to the world. Well, the reader, but still. Like, what happened to a little mystery for the reader? We want to have something to guess throughout the book as well!3) this troubled man has a condition called 'apraxia'. The author goes one to explain what apraxia is which, when I look at it, it feels like the author is undermining the vocabulary of the reader. Especially since there were other bigger words used throughout the book without definition. It also shows me that the author tried too hard to find a disability for the hero and that she didn't know what it was. Hey, she might have know, but that's how I view it. I see it as her (the author) googling 'unique disabilities that still keeps a person attractive'. And I shouldn't be thinking about the what the author was doing when I'm trying to read her novel.4) there were some parts when it was the heroes pov and the language would randomly include some vulgar terms just to get an erotic feel out of it. Sure he's a dude, he's going to have sexy time feelings, but they just seemed so out of place with the character.5) the hero was suuuuuuch a self pitier. I mean, come ON. 'No! I don't want her to see me for who I reeeeaaally am. I am just too broken of a man for her delicate nature!' ...... Okay maybe not those exact words but still. I mean, one minute he would seem like a total dbag who doesn't care about anyone's feelings, then the next he's so worried that he'll hurt her without meaning to. Which also undermines her ability to handle things. She's a grown ass woman. Let her handle her own feelings and you just do you boo boo.6) it seemed a little too unrealistic that the heroine was able to 'fix' his sleeping just by touching his hand at night. Idk. Maybe that's just me..7) the guy they work for seemed to know they were in love with each other just by how the hero treated her after she ALMOST GOT RAPED. Like, yeah, if he didn't try to comfort her after that, he would be a ddddooooouuuuucccchhheeebbbaaagggg. That doesn't she that he loves her, just that he cares. 8) oh, they both play guitar, I never understood if they sung while playing or not. I know it's not that big of a deal, but it just bothered me. The reader only knew at the end when her played and sung for her at work.9) WTFTHEYREENGAGEDTHATHAPPENEDWAYTOOFAST. Yeah, I thought they were only going to get back together, like, date, since, ya know, thEY NEVER DID THAT BEFORE. NOW THEY'RE ENGAGED!!! Omg.....10) then it just ends. No real resolution. I know they're happy and all but what ever happened to the guy who totally had a thing for her? Did that lead singer creep ever get brought to justice? Idk!11) then the reoccurring thing was the duel pov in the third person. I realised why I was never really able to stand this in books. It's because every time they switch perspectives, they kept agreeing with one another. Example: hero thinks about wow dang I really am in LOVE with this chick; then the heroine is like, wow, he's looking at me like he could be in love with me!! Like, they realise everything at the same time.. It's just weird...ANYWAYYYY!!!!!!! Wow. I can't believe how much I just complained when, in fact, I REALLY FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Seriously! If you like military heroes, troubled characters, forbidden love, and some amazing sexual tension (I mean, like, REALLY FREAKING AWESOME tension), then go. read. this. book.... Noooowwww.
review 2: Her Forbidden Hero ReviewStar Rating: 4 stars out of 5Alyssa was a great character, and wasn't the typical perfect girl in many stories. She was flawed and she was in love. Alyssa knew exactly what she wanted and was willing to fight to get it. Heck, she even took a job mainly so she could be around the man she fell in love with years before. Marco her lover was her brothers best friend (cliché yes, but adorable none the less.) He obviously had a mind not to do anything to Alyssa sexually, no matter his feelings for her. That is until jealously gets the best of him and he decides to go with the flow. She made his nightmares go away and he was frightened that she wouldn't want to be with such a flawed man. Of course that wasn't the case. Overall, it was an adorable story, and I mean who doesn't love a man in uniform? Note:I am interested in reading more of the series as well from Laura Kaye. less
