review 1: Ruby Redfort is a young spy who gets a call from a spy company to help decode script, but the funny thing is that her temporary butler is a spy and try's to helps her along the way. Ruby runs into many bad guys and it doesn't help that her friend is always asking questions she's not allowed to answer them. The way that the author wrote the story made me want to keep reading until I was done. I think that anyone who likes action and comedy will I joy this book.
review 2: Precocious code-breaker Ruby Redfort has the mystery delivered to her front door, in a series of interlocking coincidences and plots that can only fly in children's books. With scenarios as grandly implausible as Lemony Snicket, Mysterious Benedict Society, Mr. Chickee's Funny Money, and Horow... moreitz's Alex Rider books, there should be many readers for this series. Readers don't seem to ask for Ruby Redfort at my library, but many would like how Ruby takes care of business a la Harry Potter - the adult characters seem to be perpetually waiting for someone else to do something, always busy "elsewhere" when things start to go down, yet provide the young protagonists with locations, gear, motives, etc. It's great for a younger reader who likes mysteries but not violence, and I hope the author keeps the series that way, as some detective series don't. (Alex Rider, Sammy Keyes, Mysterious Benedict, for ex.) The handful of puzzles to solve are just right, too; not too hard, not too easy - I wish there had been a few more. less
