review 1: A very interesting conversation between a boy and the Dark personified occurs. By making it human-like, the boy can discover that there is nothing to fear about darkness, it may look scary, but it is just its nature to be the opposite of light, it bears no ill will towards others. The beautiful colours contrast nicely against the pure black that can fill much of the page, and does a good job of portraying a fear of the dark.
review 2: This selection for the Mock Caldecott was scary, then fun. Illustrated by Jon Klassen and created with gouache and then the rest is digital. So, from what it looks like he used the gouache for the background and the splattery textures. The line art and main colors (like the boy and his blue pajamas) are all digitally drawn later. ... moreA fun method and a cute book I really liked it, but it wasn't the beeeeest! less
