review 1: In Leslie Tentler's first novel, she juggles myriad subjects and plotlines: obsession; childhood trauma and abuse; drugs; the Goth community; adolescent psychiatry; murder; romantic love and chemistry; even vampirism, and she does so while doing justice to the culture and ambience of New Orleans. For the most part, she tackles all of these themes and issues with admirable aplomb - all are given due attention, as they are used to advance the plot and add layers to the characters.All in all, this is a very good book; I'd go so far as to say it's one of the better romantic suspense novels I've read in a long time. That said, it is not without flaws: while the subject matter is both interesting and disturbing - and, at times, even heart-wrenching, particularly when delving in ... moreTrevor's past and its continued impact on him - it's not what I would call a fast read. It's not that the pace is slow, per se, but there are times when the reading seems to be more on the slow-going side; perhaps things with the overarching serial killer plotline are drawn out for a touch too long. I also had some problems with Rain: for a character who has also had to deal with her fair share of trauma, she does not strike me as being particularly well-drawn, and there are times when she alternates between being almost Mary Sue-ish in nature, to making some incredibly stupid decisions that not only place her but also the people around her in very real danger, and also have possible repercussions in terms of the joint FBI and police investigation. There's a difference between being headstrong, independent, and well-meaning, and just plain stupid, and there are times when Rain seems to fall into the latter category. Overall, she's not a bad character, in that she's all too human and flawed, and is not a doormat (as female characters in these types of books can be, all too often), but there's something in the writing that keeps her from becoming a fully-realized, entirely sympathetic character, in my view.However, these not-entirely-positive aspects of the novel likely sound (or, in this case, read) much worse than they actually are. The premise of the novel is intriguing, and even downright creepy, at times (although it's not particularly difficult to figure out the identity of the villain of the piece); Trevor reconnecting with his brother and sister makes for very emotional and gripping subject matter; and the connection and relationship between Rain and Trevor is well-written, in terms of their chemistry and ever-growing feelings for one another. So, while the book isn't perfect - though, really, what book is? - it is well-written, especially considering this is Ms. Tentler's first novel, and it has certainly made me eager to read her subsequent work. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch romantic suspense read.

Och med en gång känner han igen seriemördaren kallad "vampyren". Mannen som kidnappar flickor, gör hål i halsen och dricker blodet, sen lämnar tillbaka de till föräldrarna. Nu måste Rain och trevor jobba tillsammans. Kemin är hög, likaså känslorna till både framtid och förfluten tid men för att bekämpa psykopaten som är besatt av Rain måste dom jobba ihop. less
