review 1: The perfect companion novel!! LOVED IT. Fred and Viv have become one of my all time favorite couples! In Painted Faces, I fell in love with that straight drag queen, and with this book, I fell a little more in love with simply Nicholas. I've always loved how open minded and beautiful Fred is!AND THAT ENDING!!! GAWWHHHHH....I couldn't wipe the smile off my face...its literally still there!!!!A must read!
review 2: Killer Queen is essentially Painted Faces from Nicholas' POV with a bit before and a bit after and a few new scenes in between. While it says this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Painted Faces first. Having read the two books back-to-back, I can see that someone who hadn't read Painted Faces first would be missing out on some w
... moreonderful character building and plot building. Though a newbie would still enjoy Killer Queen, I think the experience is more complete reading Painted Faces first.I fell in love with Nicholas and Freda in Painted Faces. Their story was beautiful and touching and unique and unconventional. Their characters were captivating and intriguing. And I loved getting it all from Freda's POV, learning about Nicholas through her. At the end, I didn't want to leave them. I wanted more. And Killer Queen gives all the more that I wanted. I loved seeing it all through Nicholas' eyes. Here we get to see Nicholas at his low times before meeting Freda. We see how quickly he becomes enamored with her when they meet. We see their instant connection as true kindred spirits. We get all of Nicholas' thoughts along the way, which some I guessed at and some took me by surprise. We see his highs and lows, his mistakes and his charm, his sexiness and his sweetness. And then we get that beautiful ending! I was a happy, happy girl getting my fill of this lovely couple who charmed me, enamored me, and took over my heart. Killer Queen solidified for me why I love Nicholas and why I love him and Freda together. Now there is repetition through the middle from the dialogue of scenes from Painted Faces, so for someone like me who had just read the first book, it felt a bit familiar. But I still thoroughly enjoyed being in Nicholas' head and look forward to revisiting this couple in future re-reads of both books, as they are simply wonderful. Killer Queen is a true treat for fans of this couple. less
