review 1: **CONTAINS SPOILERS**GAAHH!!! I had such high hopes for this book, but it let itself down for me in so many ways. I absolutely loved the blurb, and was so excited to read a novel about a straight cross dresser, a first for me. To me, there is nothing sexier than a man who's comfortable with who he is, and so I was looking forward to finding out what made Nicholas tick, along with the dynamics of his and Freda's relationship. Also, I live near Dublin, and worked in the City Centre for a few years, and so I was looking forward to following them around the City!Unfortunately we couldn't just enjoy Nicholas's kink though - there had to be sexual abuse thrown in. Seems you can't have a sexual kink without a messed up childhood. However, I was enjoying getting to know Nicholas. ... moreWell, until he unashamedly slept with another woman right under Freda's nose, more or less. That's where I lost interest in the story. There were other issues that bugged the bejeezus out of me also, including:1. Freda was very judgmental and immature. They were all in their 20's, but it read as teens.2. There was a LOT of rambling and boring anecdotes, like Freda's opinion on Facebook, Dave McSavage, etc.3. Freda's constant self-deprecation was draining. We get it, you've a weight issue.4. Nora was a total cow. Her and Freda were friends? Really??!!5. Every single Irish-ism was explained in detail, ruining the flow.6. The author tried too hard to make Freda funny. She wasn't. So annoying. This could have been such a sensual, sexual, dark exploration, but instead it was pretty forgettable. I would like to read another story of a similar theme, so if anyone has any recs, please let me know! :-)
review 2: ADULT CONTENT! To my young teen readers, put this one off until you're older. ;) This book was an unexpected favorite for me. I saw good things about it on Goodreads, but wasn't super drawn in by the description. On a whim, I figured I'd give it a try. SO glad I did. I fell in love with Fred immediately and couldn't get enough of her. She is a character I REALLY want as a real life friend. I adored Nicholas, *happy sigh* and will admit I shed a few tears throughout the story. I was sad when this one ended, but only because I wanted the book to go on and on. I love Cosway's writing style and will def be reading more books from her. less
